Monday, 22.01.2018 Luxembourg – Trieste via Munich

Departure at 09.35 am with Lufthansa; arrival in Trieste at 12.20 pm. On the way to our hotel we will make a halt at the Castle of Miramare. The castle stands on a rocky promontory overlooking the Adriatic Sea. From here, you will have a magnificent panorama of the Gulf of Trieste. Miramare Castle and its park were built by order of Ferdinand Maximilian of the House of Habsburg, by the middle of the XIX century, as his residence together with his wife Princess Charlotte from Belgium. Thereafter the bus will take us about 10 km to our hotel which overlooks the Gulf of Trieste. A dinner for all participants will be served at the hotel.

Tuesday, 23.01.2018 Cividale del Friuli – Trieste – Udine

After breakfast at the hotel we’ll visit Cividale del Friuli. In 50BC, Cividale was founded as a Roman municipality by Julius Caesar, since 2011 it entered the UNESCO heritage list. After lunch, we will return to Trieste for a visite of the town center. In the evening, we will enjoy the concert given by the OPL in Udine. After the concert, a dinner is booked for all participants. .

Wednesday, 24.01.2018 Aquileia – Redipuglia

On our third day, after breakfast, the bus takes us to Aquileia, one of the major cities of the Roman Empire. The archaeological excavations have not, till date, brought to light the whole history of the Roman era of this city. The patriarchal basilica, a superb building with an exceptional mosaic pavement, played a key role in the evangelization within part of Central Europe. This building houses on 760 sqm the most exceptional mosaic pavement art of Italy from the beginning of the 4th century. After our lunch break we will pay a visit to the military cemetery of Redipuglia, the biggest military cemetery of Italy and one of the hugest wordwide. This memorial place contains a staircase with 22 large steps, containing the remains of 39 857 identified soldiers in alphabetical order. At the end of the staircase, two large tombs are erected which contain the remains of over 60 000 unknown soldiers. The journey will end with a common dinner.

Thursday, 25.01.2018 San Daniele - Spilimbergo

After breakfast, we will move to San Daniele, city well renowned for its excellent San Daniele Ham. This city is a member of the “Cittaslow”, an organization founded in Italy in 1999. Cittaslow’s goals are to improve the quality of life in towns by slowing down overall urbanization, and promoting the quality of life. We will visit a ham producer and enjoy regional products. In the afternooen, we continue our journey to Spilimbergo, a beautiful little town, with its gothic cathedral built between 1284 and 1359, a castle with its 14th century frescoes called Palazzo di pinto. We will visit the Scuola Mosaicisti, school where Roman, Byzantine and modern mosaic techniques are being taught. This school has its roots in the 17th century, when craftsmen from the region were flocking to Venice where the art of mosaics developed. Today’s workers continue with this valued heritage, by producing unique an high artistical mosaic techniques, an art which is decorating airports, universities, royal palaces, cathedrals a.s.o. worlwide. A common dinner at the Spilimbergo castle will close this beautiful journey.

Friday, 26.01.2018 Trieste – Luxembourg via Munich

Breakfast at the hotel followed by the transfer to the airport. Departure at 12.55 pm via Munich with arrival in Luxembourg at 16.30 pm.
