24.08.2017: Luxembourg – Hondarribia

Departure from Luxembourg to Hondarribia via Biarritz on board a charter flight together with the orchestra.

Hondarribia‘s historic center is considered as an ancient monument. Inside the old town paved streets in a rectangular layout are lined with superb mansions with wrought iron balconies.

On the heights of the old town we can see the castle of Charles V. It underwent only slight repairing allowing it to be used as a Parador, our pied-à-terre till August 26th. It is located alongside the „Plaza de Armas“ and close to the church of „Santa Maria de la Asunción“ also called „Nuestra Señora del Manzano“.

25.08.2017: San Sebastián

San Sebastián is one of the most visited cities in Spain. Tourism is essential for the economic situation of the place. Visitors are mainly attracted by its excellent gastronomy . The seaside, the three beaches (Zurriola – la Concha – Ondarreta), the old town with its narrow alleys and no sidewalks are in strong contrast to the wide avenues of the modern city.

The „Festival Quincena Musical“ , created in 1939 and dedicated to classic music, goes on for about six weeks and takes mainly place in the Kursaal. This evening the OPL will give its first concert out of the two scheduled in San Sebastián.

26.08.2017: Bilbao

Bilbao is the prime city of the autonomous community of the Basque Country and the North of the Spanish peninsula. It bears the titles of Muy Noble y Muy Leal e Invicta.

After the economic crisis of 1980, which badly hit its industry, Bilbao recovers in 1989. The flagship project of its revival was the construction of the Guggenheim Museum with Frank Gehry as its architect.

27.08.2017: Santander

Santander, the capital city of the autonomous community and historic region of Cantabria, closes the north bay that bears its name, one of the most beautiful bays worldwide.

The Royal Palace of Magdalena dates from the early twentieth century and is situated in the peninsula of Magdalena. Its construction was financed by a local public call for funding. The royal family used the palace for leisure and sports activities, and once in a while the king held his government meetings on its premises. The family‘s yearly stays ended with the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931.

The day will end with a concert given by the OPL at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria.

28.08.2017: Santander – Luxembourg

Our journey will end with a panoramic visit of the city of Santander and the return to Luxembourg on board a charter flight together with the orchestra.
